On April 11, 2026, Partners in Learning held a groundbreaking ceremony at their center on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Salisbury, marking the start of a major expansion that will bring all of their services together under one roof. Executive Director Norma Honeycutt, board chair Celia Jarrett, and several staff members and donors participated in the ceremonial shoveling.
The expansion will include a dedicated mental health clinic with its own separate space and an additional sensory room. Development Director Katelin Rice noted the capital campaign has surpassed $4.4 million of its $6 million goal, with construction expected to wrap up in spring 2027.
The land itself was a gift from Gerry and Brenda Wood, who were moved by the organization’s mission after hearing Honeycutt speak at a Rotary meeting. Brenda Wood highlighted the significance of the growth, noting the center’s existing waitlist and the opportunity to serve more children, including those with special needs.
The groundbreaking was paired with an inclusive mini-conference and staff development day featuring a simulation called “Designed for Different,” giving community members and board members a firsthand look at the needs Partners in Learning serves. The organization is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
