For more than 15 years, Partners in Learning has been part of a national effort to promote respect and inclusion by encouraging communities to retire harmful language, specifically a derogatory term long used against people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through its annual Spread the Word campaign, the Salisbury nonprofit helps children, families, and the wider community understand how the words we choose shape attitudes and, ultimately, how people with disabilities are welcomed — or left out — of everyday life.
